Our Story The goal – to guarantee a wonderful meal with authentic cuisine and fabulous margaritas, serve over 50 artisanal and ancestral mezcals, and over 100 different types of tequila brands in a vibrant unique atmosphere that boasts excellent service. Ruta Oaxaca Mexican Cuisine opened in Astoria in 2021 with such a wonderful and successful home run that a second location opened in Patchogue in March 2022. Ruta Oaxaca means “Road to Oaxaca,” a historic state in the southern part of Mexico. Mr. Castillo and his Partners are keenly focused on honoring Oaxacan culinary traditions, whose fame is derived in great part from its many varieties of moles. By legend, these ancient recipes are more than sauces, they are the very focus of the meal. Ruta Oaxaca proudly features four moles, each prepared using the Oaxacan mole recipes that have made the cuisine world famous. My wife and I had an excellent meal last night at The Halston. Started with some wine from a fairly extensive but reasonably priced beverage list and proceeded to order a Tuna Sashimi appetizer followed by 2 entrees that we shared which were the prime sirloin steak and the Nova Scotia salmon. The steak came to the table sliced into about 15 slices and cooked perfect to medium rare. The salmon was broiled and came with some roasted corn. We ordered some creamed spinach as well and shared a brownie for dessert. Our server Chris was attentive but not bothersome and all in all, a great meal. We will return for another meal in the near future.

Lunch here was a perfect way to end a fabulous tour of The Oheka Castle. Delicious food, fabulous service and decor. Realizing it was a birthday celebration our server brought out a sweet treat with a candle & sang happy birthday!

Delicious food, great ambiance, wonderful service! We were a group of 9 and had our own private room. I noticed that even the tables of 2-4 people were arranged in a way that is more private and intimate than restaurants typically are. Highly recommend MoCA!
