General Public is inspired by trying to imagine what an upscale English pub would be if it had the heart of an American brasserie (and was open 11 to 11). It’s also going to signal a little bit of steakhouse, but not too much. And finally, it will look behind itself at the Black Hoof, which you will see reflected in James Santon’s menu here and there. In terms of vibe, the main floor is ‘everything’s gone green’, with lush comfortable banquette seating, warm wood, and barstools designed for long conversations over many cocktails. Upstairs you’ll find a completely different space that transports you to a peachy 80s dream.     We went to Blu on Avenue Road for our 3rd anniversary dinner and had a quiet romantic table on the ground floor. Staff went out of their way to explain the menu and our choices. It was clear that they were very loyal and loved their jobs and the place. They did give us some quiet time too. Then we were told the restaurant was about to close because of a huge rent increase at their lease renewal. We hope the new location opening on King Street West will come close to the beautiful spacious building on Avenue Road. Even if it does not we will be there because the food and service is so good. We each had an amazing scallop appetizer and we were glad we did not split it and had our own. For main courses the pasta, lamb and beef tenderloin were cooked to perfection. We were too full for ordering dessert but they brought a tiramisu to share and we were able to finish before leaving happy. We can’t wait to return to the new location in May.

    We had a wonderful dinner last night with some amazing company. The food was very good and fun to share.. Our waiters were very attentive and the view was just gorgeous.. We will definitely recommend AP two our clients and our friends.
