Chaplin's Restaurant & Bar is a 1930's style Japanese Ramen House and cocktail bar. Chaplin's Executive Chef and Partner, Myo Htun, is originally from Burma, but was cooking ramen in Japan at a young age. Myo received a blessing from his mentor in Japan after nearly 30 years of cooking in Japan, to come to America and continue to showcase his authentic Ramen and traditional Japanese cuisine. Chaplin's Restaurant demonstrates the aesthetic of a bustling ramen house in Japan in the 1930's silent film era. There is also a large outdoor dining area that is dog friendly. Haikan is our second Sapporo Ramen shop in DC after Daikaya. Haikan means, “pipe works” in Japanese, an ode to Atlantic Plumbing Building where we are located. At Haikan, we focused on creating the taste of ramen from the showa period, the golden age of ramen in Japan. There are over 1000 ramen shops in the city of Sapporo alone, and we are excited to share a completely new line-up of traditional Sapporo style ramen in DC. In addition to ramen, we are serving a playful selection of Japanese-inspired kozara (small plates) to share, or to start with, or to make a whole meal of by picking a few of them. Haikan's bar serves a collection of Japanese-inspired cocktails, and a concentrated selection of Japanese sake, shochu, beer, whisky, and more.

    Yes to start off we was greeted and checked in a little before our reservations. We had a drink before our table I had the whiskey clover she had the cucumber gimlet. Both very good we then got seated our server was Erma she did an excellent job. As far as the food everything was great that we ordered has the jumbo lump crab cake and calamari for appetizers. Both very good. For entree we split the lamb chops and she had New York strip I had the 12 oz manhattan wagyu with a South African lobster tail stuffed with crab, everything taste amazing. For sides we had the whipped potatoes and asparagus would recommend both. Over 5/5 it’s worth it Erma did a great job would definitely come back.

    My mom and I had a great experience from when we walked in to when we left. Our waiter Elliott was vet professional, friendly and always checked on us. We will definitely be back!

    I am vegan and the server had no problem making sure my meal was dairy-free and meat-free. She even told me there was fish broth in the Miso Soup, which I didn’t order due to her honesty. I think the restaurant should include the fish broth on the list of ingredients on the menu. Every ingredient should be listed when it comes to meat, diary or any spice with heat (cayenne, chili, etc.). Good food, good service. I have never had a bad meal here.
