Indian Fine Dining Restaurant with British Flair in the Heart of Mayfair. Benares Restaurant and Bar since its opening in 2003 has been considered one of the finest Indian Restaurants in the city. Guests enter an elegant lounge with hand-crafted India inspired furniture and is complemented by a beautiful pond decorated with fresh flowers, creating a luxurious aesthetic.Benares has 4 private dining rooms, three of which are around the lounge: the Berkeley Room which seats up to 16 guests, the Sommeliers Table which seats up to 10 guests and a Chefs Table overlooking the kitchen which seats up to 8 guests. The overall experience was good. There were seven of us, including one vegetarian. For the non-vegitarians the food was good, except for one who chose scallops and found them to be tasteless lost in the sauce, however, the vegetarian commented that his food was poor. A minor, but annoying, side note: We ordered poppadoms for the table, two per head. This turned out to be two half poppadoms which was pretty annoying for all.

Been before and - as always - this visit was a pure delight. We were celebrating a birthday and it was a very special meal. Food was amazing (as always), expertly spiced. Not overpowering, but no hiding the delicious flavours. Fish, prawns and indeed everything else cooked to perfection. We’ll be back again I’m sure.

11/10 experience. The food was absolutely incredible - some of the best Indian food I've ever had. It strided the line of inventive yet traditional flawlessly, and was easily better than what we normally have access to back in NYC. Probably going to buy Vivek Singh's cookbook now honestly. Also, the staff was lovely. Great service, and very attentive despite a full house (not too loud surprisingly, and wonderful ambiance by the way. My server even helped me surprise my partner for our anniversary. I came here on a whim on a travel day, and will definitely be coming back every time I am in London from now on. Thank you all so much!
