There is only one way to describe it: Classic Russia in the heart of New York. The history of Russian Samovar starts well before the restaurant itself. Originally Jilly's Canteen, and owned by a friend of Frank Sinatra, Jilly Rizzo, Samovar was the go-to hot spot for Sinatra and The Rat Pack. In 1986, Roman Kaplan, founder of Russian Samovar acquired the property and was joined in 1987 by friends and business partners: Legendary dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov and Nobel Award Winning poet Joseph Brodsky. Baryshnikov's baby grand piano is still used daily by our performers and guests can still request the Brodsky table, where the legends used to sit and drink away the hours. Guests of private events also enjoy our private dining room, where Baryshnikov filmed Sex in the City.Samovar has remained a celebrity hangout over the years. Exceptional service by Sammy, delicious food and a festive ambiance made for a perfect Sunday night pre-Beacon Theater-show dinner. We enjoyed tender short ribs, tasty brick chicken and the quinoa bowl with chicken, followed by crème brûlée and chocolate babka for dessert. And we were only a short walk to the Beacon Theater for our show.

I took a shot on this one due to the mixed reviews. This was our first time here (party of 4) to celebrate my mom's birthday. Honestly, everything was really nice from the moment we walked in. We were received by a nice, smiling hostess and all our servers were kind and answered all questions we had. The food was good and the tea was great. The only thing is that it is a bit overpriced for what it is...but it's NY people, this is expected. Overall we were all extremely satisfied with our first-time dine in at the Russian Tea Room.

Burger was delicious. Crab cake is full of fresh crab, but could use a little more of the sauce. The slaw served with it is very good too. However, I think the crab cake the boathouse used to have was better. Appreciated the complimentary plate of veggies to start. Offering some bread would be nice too.
