The Blackbird Bar and Restaurant, at 37-39 Leven Street in the Bruntsfield area of south-west Edinburgh, serves modern Scottish cuisine. It is located close to The Meadows public park, less than 10 minutes by car or taxi from Waverley and Haymarket Railway Stations; Edinburgh Castle and the city centre are around 20 minutes' walk away. The exposed stone walls of its traditional, tavern-like interior give it an authentically Scottish atmosphere and it also has a beer garden in which to enjoy an al fresco drink or bite to eat in the warmer summer months. Skua is a small basement restaurant and bar located on St Stephen street in Stockbridge. The food menu, led by Head Chef James Aikman, is seasonal, refined, well balanced and innovative. Drawing from a large library of pickled and fermented produce year round the kitchen team offers dishes that punch well above their weight and are produced in an exceptionally small space, visible to guests as they enter the restaurant. We didn't eat but food looked and smelled lovely. The staff are brilliant and made our evening absolutely lovely. Wish we could have stayed longer but had a dinner engagement to get to. Will definitely return.

Not enough superlatives- I was dubious when the ceviche came out last but it was a stroke of genius by the chef - a wonderful palate cleanser to end the small plate selection perfectly - cannot recommend enough - would definitely return!

We had booked afternoon tea but their pastry oven had suddenly broken down so we were told in advance and decided to do lunch instead. On arrival we were greeted by Enrique who took us to a table with a beautiful view of Edinburgh and two complimentary glasses of fizz as an apology for not being able to provide the afternoon tea which was a nice touch. Our lunch was lovely and the Sticky toffee pudding was delicious with a decent dollop of ice cream too. We ordered the house champagne which was lovely. A lovely atmosphere and equally lovely attentive staff. I would recommend it and the afternoon tea as we have experienced it before.
