Growing up in Italy, my family cooked at home and had the most extraordinary experiences with ingredients grown in our backyard, paired with the wines my chef/restaurateur stepfather would bring back from regions throughout Italy. I fell in love with food as a child watching my stepfather, once nominated a top chef in Italy, work in restaurant kitchens and floors. Moving to California in 1991 and subsequently to Santa Monica and experiencing the Farmers Market inspired me to start Orto - Italian for “vegetable garden” - where I meld local ingredients and organic herbs grown here at the restaurant to create traditional Italian recipes. Amazing food all around 5 people dining- appetizers we got waygu meatballs and squash blossoms - both perfect as always. It was thanksgiving day- Main course we got Chilean sea bass, bronzino, Mary’s turkey, and chicken piccata. I personally had the sea bass and it was amazing, I tried the bronzino and that was amazing too- will get as my main course next time I go. Desserts were maple pecan pie and pumpkin cheesecake- and both were great and finished. Thank you to Casalena and our waitress Adriana for making our thanksgiving night great! See you next time!

Mila was an excellent server, the food was outstanding for me and my 4 friends, the view can’t be beat, and the Zinfandel they offer by the glass was amazing!

The service was great, the food was good, as well as the view. The room, however, is nothing special; it is a multi-purpose room which happens to serve as a tea room for the occasion. There is unfortunately nothing in the design of the room which enhances the Garden Tea experience. To be truly successful, the Garden Tea needs its own space.
