Founded in 1996 the ideas for the Marblehead Chowder House were actually hatched a few years before. Sitting at "The Barnacle," overlooking Marblehead Harbor one raw winter day, while the spume from the rough saltwater painted the windows and the Sam Adams Lager flowed freely, a concept was born. Casual, coastal and cozy - fresh seafood, fin fish, shellfish and hearty chowders in a warm, relaxing atmosphere that says "seaside" - a place that had tradition, patriotism, and a New England heritage about it. Fresh ingredients, house-made soups and chowders, comfort food with a twist freshly prepared to order were all musts! Features unique to New England were the foundation – Ipswich Belly Clams (aka steamers, softshells, pissers), fresh Lobster Roll, a Raw Bar with half-shell oysters and clams and, of course, live Lobsters arriving regularly.     8 of us went to Capitol Grille for Katie's Bday. The Hostess was so pleasant & immediately ask if she could take the birthday cake off my hands. She cheerfully said, “don’t worry we will take it from here.” Our waiter Bill could not have made us feel more welcomed! Everything kept on getting better from there, especially the food, WOW!! When we were all done with our main courses, the table was cleared, and the birthday cake reappeared. What a great birthday party the Capitol Grille through for Katie. Thanks

    Perfection..BYOB Extraordinary cuisine.. Not the same old food and wine list that so many have. The oysters alone are worth the trip.. The sauces are refined and sophisticated. To say the fish is fresh is an understatement. I think they swim there. Desert is a must have. I do not usually give such ringing endorsements but i felt compelled. AND NOW they have COWBOY STEAK ..I hesitated but WOW OFF THE CHART DELICIOSO. Staff well versed and family friendly. My Patek Philippe should run so well

    We were warmly greeted by our friendly waiter Mario who provided superior customer service throughout our dinner. The food was superb from apps to entrees. A very memorable experience for everyone in our party. Highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions.
