We are serving a wonderful ala carte menu with many delicious & unique options. We have an award winning wine list, and cocktail menu available as well - ask about our 'smoked' cocktails.

Set in a charming and historic house on a ridge overlooking The Rivanna River in Charlottesville, Virginia, 1799 at The Clifton is committed to cooking beautiful, locally sourced food in a warm yet chic atmosphere. Michelin Starred Chef Matthew Bousquet and his team are dedicated to giving you the best of new Piedmont cooking in a special way. Come and explore the offerings of our Chef’s seasonal menus, featuring the bounty of our own organic vegetable and herb garden. We look forward to making your visit truly memorable! Please make any requests on seating preferences, using the reservation notes. We will do our absolute best to accommodate all request based on availability.

                                                                While a limited menu, everything was delicious. The pear salad was generous, fresh and delicious. The mussels were plump and in a very tasty broth. For entrees, we had the ribs which were perfectly cooked, the meat flaked off and a great sauce accompanied it. The beef Bourguignon was very well prepared but the meat was tougher than we are accustomed to. The drinks were creative and very good.

                                                                My partner and I made reservations for valentines day at 8pm. Unfortunately there were no parking spots when we arrived which I understand is out of their control but we ended up having to park in muddy grass. We arrived just after 8 and were not seated until 9pm. This was frustrating as we were not able to order any food or snacks at the bar. Once seated, we did not get water or our waiter for another long period of time. There were four courses and the food was overall very good but most times we were left without utensils after the food was brought. Overall, it was not my favorite dining experience especially for a restaurant of this caliber.

                                                                I ate here for the Valentines five course menu and it was phenomenal. The dishes were curated exceptionally well. I did not leave disappointed and was already planning my next visit before I left. The staff are wonderful. We sat at the bar shortly before dining and enjoyed our beverages and time chatting with the bartender. She was the most welcoming and was able to provide drink recommendations which were very fitting.

                                                                Great venue for a special occasion like Valentines Day. The fixed price five course menu was outstanding, well thought out, ambiance in the library was very cozy. It’s pricey for sure so not something you do often.
