This was our first experience dining at 29 Markle Court and was the catalyst for our desire to continue visiting in the future!!
Catherine greeted us on our arrival and was a thoughtful, knowledgeable, and positive presence throughout the evening.
We were originally intending on some simple refreshment at the outset, but...Catherine recommended several of their creative "mock-tails" and, wisely, we followed her lead. They were delicious. There were two drinks delivered - a hibiscus-themed libation, and a pineapple/ginger/turmeric combination, which immediately became favorites to be remembered.
Our first course consisted of a rather ample Caesar salad, dusted with panko crumbs and an umami-like parmesan confetti. Also...perhaps the best roasted beet dish, ever, was served in a small tower, highly chopped with inclusions of herbs, mustard seed on the surface, and walnuts. I've had "beet salads" at many restaurants, but this one rose to a higher plane.
This was followed by two orders of short ribs, which were prepared to perfection - sporting a thoroughly flavor-filled crust with an absolutely pliant, melt-in-your-mouth interior. This delicious preparation was plated atop a potato purée and served with a nest of braised savoy cabbage.
Catherine was a delightful presence who kept a respectful distance as we ate but always chose the perfect moment to check on our satisfaction
The meal was topped off with an elegant expresso and an apple tart / vanilla gelato dessert that was the perfect ending to a perfect meal.
Finally... the restaurant chef-de-cuisine, Damian, came over to the table for a professional introduction and an inquiry about the quality of our experience. Damian is a talented, wonderful chef!!
We were delighted to also notice that 29 Markle Court was a close-knit, black-owned, elegant, and upscale restaurant, whose owners and staff we wish many years of happy success.
