   I don’t usually write reviews, but we had the most phenomenal experience on Easter! We are a family who cooks and loves good food. Our party of 8 included two elderly couples. I can’t tell you how thoughtfully our party was taken care of. The host, Fredrika, seated us on a beautiful covered back patio that was almost like a private room — everyone could hear each other well. And we had the most fabulous, hilarious server, Roberto. The food was out of this world — we were transported to the best of modern Italy. I’m telling you, it was an experience! Our whole family is raving about it. Very special. Thank you, A16!

   One of the most delicious and reliable restaurant experiences in SF. I always feel like I'm in Shelley’s home when I visit A-16 its such a cozy unpretentious space, and the food always feel home cooked (as it is!). never fancy, wonderful rustic, and delicious. Last night’s meal was exceptional…Starting with a small order of sandwiches with mozzarella, parma ham, followed by a magnificent carrot dish with currants and almonds, a braised artichoke seaped in a side of olive oil infused breadcrumbs, pureed fava with greens and homemade flat breads, a superb Funghi Pizza with a slight spark of chili, and lemony pasta with fresh tiny fresh catch shrimp….no room for dessert! Also, the spirit of the staff is a particular highlight of the workings of A-16. All roads of course lead to owner Shelley Lindgren's warm hospitality , Valerio the master of the kitchen, Dario server extraordinaire, our lovely server Sunny and newcomer (to me!) Bea , and sadly missing the names of another server who finished with us who was delightful, and the host who greeted us. and other on staff who couldn't be nicer and more attentive. I think it's important to call people out for exceptional service. It's why coming to A-16 feels like coming home. And in this difficult restaurant market of SF, to haver place with this kind of consistency of staff speaks to Shelley and her visions and efforts. Bravo. cant wait to come back in

   We had a burrata cheese and prosciutto salad which was very good. The wine selection is limited to foreign wines (always a mystery to me when Napa is 20 minutes away from the City). Wine was just okay. My wife's pork chop was full of fat......about 90% fat ad my short rib was also very fatty......saving grace was the polenta which was good. This appears to be a pizza joint....we didn't order pizza but it seemed very popular. No need to return.....

   We’ve been dining here for 20 years. It’s always consistently good. The food is delicious and it has the best Italian wines in town, bar none.

   Bib gourmand listed, but did not meet expectations. Staff paid little attention to us, and pushed us out of the way to run plates of food all night. Chefs counter was nice until I noticed a cook take a huge bite of food off the spoon he was preparing a dish with, then continue to serve that dish. Also noticed raw chicken being cut on a board where pork chops were being seasoned on as well. Will not be back.

   I'm a longtime FAN of A16 -- a neighborhood gem w/in 5-6 blocks of my house. Last night (Sunday, March 30th) was definitely an anomaly from my experience. First of all, the lighting was horrific -- inexplicably, the place was so brightly lit, it was like walking into a tanning booth -- which I've never seen in 20+ years. They turned down a few lights after we asked 2-3x, but it was never as "mood lit" as it usually is -- like many folks, I would (literally) never eat there again with bright lighting as such (we only did so b/c I'd "sold" an out-of-town visitor on the quality of the experience). The service was mixed/mediocre as well -- again, VERY unlike my experience at A16 in the past. The only thing I can imagine is that the restaurant is currently under "new management"...?? I've not been there in several months, so that might not be the most recent change...?

    Quintessential San Francisco dining experience. Hands down. Incredible, delicious, just such good food. Great service from attentive staff. Spot on wine pairings from Shelley and her team. This is the place to good when you want a wonderful dinner and relaxing evening!
