A restaurant is a place where food and drinks are served to customers. Restaurants were originally operated on the side of roads so travelers could stop to rest and recharge. Today, restaurants are almost everywhere: on quiet streets and busy roads, in hotels, airports, bus and train stations, parks, office buildings, and shopping malls. Restaurants make up the largest segment of the food service industry. Establishments that serve food to people outside their homes are also part of the industry, including schools, hospitals, and factories.
