Alma's tasting menu is a journey from the ocean to the mountains, highlighting heirloom corn from Mexico which is nixtamalised and ground in-house revealing fresh masa each morning. Chef Juan Lopez Luna shares the flavours of his childhood in Central Mexico, integrating authentic Mexican techniques, heirloom Mexican corn and local Quebecois and East Coast ingredients.

    (Canada's Top 100)Located off the beaten path in the heart of Outremont, Alma is an intimate 24-seat restaurant showcasing modern Mexican cuisine with authentic techniques and flavours combined with local Quebec ingredients. It is operated by the couple, Chef Juan Lopez Luna et sommelier and wine importer Lindsay Brennan. Alma offers a tasting menu experience (5 or 9 courses) inspired by the concept of "mar y montana", largely influenced by Chef Juan's childhood memories of central Mexico as well as the couple's time spent on the coastal region of Oaxaca. Lopez is one of the few chefs in Canada working with heritage corn from Mexico, making fresh masa in-house each morning and tortillas by hand with his grandmother's traditional tortilla press. The wine list specializes in sunshine-filled Catalan wines from a unique group of winemaker-friends from the Barcelona region. Alma is the Canadian destination for Catalan wines, with a deep cellar of back vintages and rare cuvées.

    Deux soirées d’exception au Alma où les chefs Xrysw Ruelas Diaz et Oscar Segundo du célèbre restaurant Xokol (Guadalajara, Mexico) prendront place aux côtés de Juan Lopez Luna en cuisine pour un menu imprégné de leur passion commune pour les traditions de la gastronomie mexicaine et la conservation du maïs ancestral.     Paying ahead of time and choosing menu is great. The experience shifts away from decision making toward pure service. Relaxing. The food itself is some of the best I’ve had in my life.

    one of the best dining experiences i’ve had in montreal. Gorgeous dishes, delicious and complex flavours, the wine pairing was outstanding & service and ambiance are perfect. 10/10!

    Quintessential Montreal high hospitality. Service was knowledgeable and unfussy. Good flexibility with the fixed menu options depending on appetite. The tuna tostada was amazing! Execution, flavours and textures told the story. Highly recommend the pairing. They were also VERY accommodating on allergies with a proper heads up before the reservation, which is nice.

    A unique food experience, starting with making the reservation. You arrive, having paid for all the food already. There is one item on the menu, which is the 9-course experience (2 of which are desserts). We had a different wine sample with each course and rounded off with a shot of Mescal with the dessert. The latin influences are evident but never dominate the experience. The wines were from Spain and the food was inspired by Mexican cuisine (and surely other cultures as well). We absolutely loved the experience. The restaurant is small and intimate. They can fit around 20 people I think (could be a few more, not sure). If you are looking for a new, exciting food experience, Alma is the place. The thought and craft that has been invested in making the dishes is amazing. We will be back!

    Le menu Carte Blanche à 9 services, accompagné de l’accord des vins, a été une expérience culinaire absolument incroyable. Chaque plat était une découverte, parfaitement mis en valeur par les vins soigneusement sélectionnés. Une aventure gustative que je recommande à 100 %. Qué rico!

    Excellent informative service both for the food and for the wine pairing. Portions are well-sized (had the 5-course tasting menu). Music level was a bit too loud at first but staff brought it down. A most enjoyable evening.
