I booked 1 adult festive afternoon tea priced £29 and 2 children festive afternoon teas priced £12. The adult afternoon tea was advertised as including a glass of chilled prosecco. As our Christmas experience at the hotel finished 30 minutes prior to our restaurant table booking, I asked if it would be at all possible to be seated a little earlier, but I was told they were very busy today but we could take a seat in the lounge while we waited. That was absolutely understandable with it being a Sunday in December, we then moved to the restaurant at our booked time and noticed there were only 2 tables seated at this point. The host confirmed our festive afternoon tea booking and showed us to our table, he then advised that an afternoon tea per child would probably be too much so perhaps we should just get 1 between the children. I explained I booked one adult afternoon tea and 2 children afternoon teas, to which he said they don’t do children’s afternoon teas and the system may be a little confusing, so I agreed to just have the one between the children. The afternoon tea was nice although definitely not child friendly, we weren’t asked if we would like anymore drinks during our afternoon teas, no staff member checked if all was okay with the food and no one came to clear our table once we had done. As we were ready to leave I decided to go the till point to pay, surprisingly the total was £63, baring in mind there was no glass of prosecco offered and only 1 fruit shoot extra compared to what was originally booked for £53. Confused I showed the confirmation email to the host, which he proceeded to take a photo of in order to show the chef in case he contested the bill; this still came to £61. I think the booking system definitely needs looking at to avoid these type of situations, and if I had known there actually wasn’t a child afternoon tea option, I definitely wouldn’t have booked it, as the little ones barely ate anything. The host was lovely & beautiful setting.
