I'll be honest, I had high expectations for this place, but for the price, there were several aspects that lacked attention. Normally, I don’t focus on low-rated reviews, thinking they might be overly critical, but after my experience, they seem spot on.
Most of the dishes tasted good, especially the first three, and the bento box had some great fish. However, the fourth dish (rice and snapper) and the dessert (a simple plate of fruit) felt like throw aways. The rice dish had no seasoning, and I was genuinely puzzled as to why a former NYC executive chef—someone often invited to cook at various events around the world (what he had mentioned to us)—would serve just fruit as a dessert (he had not done anything but cut it up for us). For the price, I don’t think anyone would expect this.
Beyond the food, the atmosphere felt uncomfortable. It was just the three of us and the chef, who hadn’t prepped anything before we arrived. The restaurant itself had no decor and looked like he used much of it as storage. While the chef was kind to my parents and myself, I feel like we were duped. Maybe he thought since we weren’t “foodies” or that we were some unimportant Americans that he didn’t need to put in much effort?
I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews, but I believe it’s important to be honest—especially given the high price point. I wouldn’t want others to have the same disappointing experience.
