It had been a while since we had been to Ates (we are locals) so decided to go back. It didn't start well, we booked for 3, were told they had thought it was for 4. I checked, we were correct, but didn't push it. We were put on a table for two against the wall with one sitting on the side. So I got to stare at a wall all night, oh joy. Being cramped on a table for 2 (not our mistake) meant there was no room to share the food easily, or actually sit comfortably (we are all tall). There was a large table in the middle set for about 8-10 people., It remained empty all night, which was very frustrating knowing we had this cramped table all night when we could have been comfortable. The music was so loud and the acoustics aren't great. I forgot how bad it can be here. Last time we sat out the back, which is less atmospheric but much quieter. The food is always a bit varied here, and I don't mind the experimentation. However our main, fish of the day was so over cooked most of us couldn't eat it. All the other dishes were tasty, some portions are too small for sharing though. The staff are really friendly though. So congrats to that. After going here for a couple of years now, not sure we would go back in a hurry after last visit. Its just too hit and miss and seriously how could you mess up such a simple booking.
