We had been looking forward to eating at Agues as we had heard great things from friends, but we left disappointed. The space is beautiful and inviting. The staff was friendly and made us feel welcome, but it went downhill from there. They gave us the wine list and it was a nice selection of French wines, but the first 3 bottles that we ordered we were told (after waiting for them to arrive) "I'm sorry, we are out of that wine", so we resorted to "well why don't you tell us what is available" The wine were settled on was a decent French Burgundy and fairly priced for a restaurant at double the retail price. Next we ordered our food, and as nice as our waitress was, we had to tell her the names of the dishes in English, as she did not seem to know their French names. This was hard to understand as that is how they are printed on the menu? Our first courses arrived together and they were good, but my wife soup was just lukewarm, not hot. Then out entrees arrived and our waitress got one of the orders wrong, so 3 of us ate, while one of our party had to wait for his entree to arrive. I ordered mussels, and they must have sat on the counter for at least 5 minutes before they were served, as they were lukewarm too. Overall, the food quality was just good, not great and dished that should have been served hot were only lukewarm. Where there are so many great places in Sonoma and Napa, it would be hard for us to decide to try Augies again, which is a shame as we really liked the ambiance. Agues came off amateurish. They should be able to manage their wine list properly, and the food quality needs to take a big step up to equal the prices charged. Really disappointing.
