After reading about Baita, I decided to take my husband for his birthday lunch. He loves raclette, and we have dined at Eataly numerous times in the past. When we arrived, no one was aware that they even took reservations for Baita, but it wasn’t a problem because there was no one there—plenty of tables. Our server treated us as though we were interrupting his day. He was not welcoming in the slightest. He didn’t ask us how we were, if we would like to start with drinks—he just kind of stood there and let us order. He never checked in on us to ask how the food was (mediocre at best—$30 for raclette and I would expect a slightly more inspired plating), he never asked if we wanted more drinks, or water, if my son needed a cup or anything at all. The support staff was nice, but our server made a lame experience downright irritating with his rude attitude and downright lack of service (which seemed purposeful-why? Was it because we were the only table of color and not old rich white ladies?). Between us, my husband and I have over 20 years experience in the service industry and we have excused all kinds of off service. But, this experience was inexcusable. To top it all off, the fish counter seemed to be deep cleaning and using an incredibly noxious cleaner to do so—why would you do this while people are sitting 15 feet away dining? The smell was disgusting. We will not be dining or shopping at eataly again.
