Sensibly chosen and deliciously cooked food from Italy's southern regions. The seafood dishes were flavoursome, and the octopus and the seafood pasta were particularly delightful. The gnocchi special was simple and delicious. The desserts were carefully chosen and expertly executed, I couldn't have asked for better. If simple, beautifully cooked and chosen southern italian cuisine is what you are looking for, then this is an ideal choice for the discerning diner.
My main reservations are that this, although well done, is conservative bordering on anachronistic. Excellent dining for the boomers and GenXers. Not so much for the millennial palate, unless younger diners are looking for an experience of quality Italian dining from yesteryear.
The dishes are delicious but unadventurous. The bar is well-equipped and the wine list excellent, but once again determinedly stuck in the past. Younger diners will be looking for many more zero alcohol options - wines, beers, cocktails - which are now much more advanced in their quality and taste than 5 years ago. Many Australian and overseas businesses are producing very convincing and enjoyable zero- and low alcohol products.
The acoustic of the dining area is quite loud when the restaurant is busy, making it difficult to hear others at the table. Some clever and subtle acoustic dampening would go a long way.
Overall an excellent restaurant, but aimed at the older, more reserved Italian fine dining aficionado.
