An exceptionally stylish supper club, civilized speakeasy, a sophisticated saloon. Each of these "personae" is housed in a soaring two-story interior distinguished by a gently curving mahogany bar, fluted columns with ornate capitals, stunning original art, plush banquettes, cozy booths, starched linens, glittering glasses, and polished flatware.
Overall, the ambiance is pure 1930's and 1940's - tasteful art moderne reminiscent of the glory days of Cunard and French Line ships. Fashionable and glamorous are the hallmarks. Trendy is simply not a part of the BIX culture.
The clientele at BIX ranges from San Francisco movers-and-shakers to "savvy travelers" - owner Doug Biederbeck's term for the many diners in the know from out of town who patronize his establishment.
All of them step from the featureless alley into another world - a world of superb cookery and libations, of sparkling service, of stylish nostalgia, of polished live jazz. That world is BIX.

    Bix is a wonderful restaurant for a special occasion. The food is delicious, the service amazing and the vibe is hip. Always a treat to dine there

    Classic SF experience. A beautiful, classy environment that is warm and inviting without feeling stuffy. Some dishes were better than others but all were excellent. The highlight was the cornbread which is truly indulgent. They seem to be a bit understaffed but the service did not suffer. Our server was covering a lot of ground so she wasn’t able to give us the attention that the price tag warrants but her recommendations were spot on and she handled the rush with grace. There’s a reason this place has been around for so long

    Charming "old school" Jazz Bistro-Supper Club vibe. Mellow Jazz, jazz themed bar mural and decor. The food is excellent, perhaps a bit rich for me (lots of butter and creme). Delicious! The bar is very classic-classy, well staffed, and great craft cocktails. All staff were engaging, pleasant, upbeat, and professional. Coat check is a nice 'grace note.'

    Always a delight to dine at Bix Asked for notice for an earlier reservation that was accommodated!! Food and cocktails always delicious I do wish that a check is not delivered without asking if we are finished as we often have coffee and then port. Gracious staff all around and coats are checked (often a lost service these days)

    Fabulous, don’t miss the chestnut soup or the fig leaf panna cotta. The black cod could have used a bit more acid. Great ambiance and loved the live music

    Disappointing this time around. We have been coming to Bix for years to celebrate the holidays and other special occasions- honestly service and food were below their (normally consistent) standards. We have never been rushed to place our full order (having already ordered drinks and apps) within 7 minutes of sitting down! The normally solid pork chop and veal pot pie were both seriously overcooked. Reset needed on their part or just a bad night?
