Booked this to cater to hubby's preference for heavily meat based menu. We have never been anywhere like this and are not steak connoiseurs so it did feel a little bewildering. The staff were friendly and attentive but I did feel a little rushed to place my order. It was explained to us but it was quite quick and then I felt like I couldn't mull the information over before I was expected to make my choice! As such, we ended up with the sharing plate of mixed skinny chops, chips, slaw and gravy.
Tbh, I hadn't really wanted any of the starter bits so this option was not the best choice. I didn't like any of them and they were incredibly difficult to eat without them dropping everywhere but hubby did his best to finish them off even though he also wasn't a fan.
When the main arrived, I was a bit disappointed as the meat served was piled onto two hunks of bread, making it look more than it was. I know meat is expensive and the whole chop thing does mean you have to contend with bones but I found I didn't actually get much off the lamb chops (which were very tasty) and the fat wasn't rendered down at all. The beef cuts were very chewy and gristly. Hubby was very happy and possibly less fussy than me. I didn't enjoy the slaw very much as it was very acidic and there were not many chips. The gravy was tasty but I did feel very thirsty later on so I guess there was a lot of salt in it.
Both the cheesecake and bread and butter pudding were delicious and we both left full. Hubby was very happy 10/10. Me 6/10
It was a popular venue with lots of people coming and going and the toilets were above average.
Would I go again? Maybe..... if I took my time to select a larger piece of lamb, rather than the small chops.
