Bloom is one of my favorite restaurants and I try to go a couple times a year.
This experience was incredibly poor due to the lack of service we experienced. We arrived right around our reservation time and were seated. 20 mins later (we checked our phones and it was actually 24 mins) we had yet to be seen by a waiter. One busser came and refilled our water glasses (since that was the only thing we had to eat or drink at our table). We were not sure who our waiter was so we tried to get the attention of anyone, and no one came. Finally, someone finally introduced themselves to us, and we hurriedly ordered our drinks, apps, and main all at once - due to the fact we were not sure we would ever see our waiter again.
Sure enough, we never did. Even when my drink was empty and I tried to get their attention, or anyone's attention, I couldn't order anything else. I had to explicitly say we would like the check when we were done with our meal, as no one had checked on us during or after our meal.
I'm not sure if we, the guests, had done something wrong to receive this service, or if it was an incredibly understaffed night.
The bill came and an automatic 20 percent tip was added to the total - this came as quite a shock as I had no idea an automatic tip would be applied. My dinner partner later told me it was on the website... Which I had not noticed. I personally don't think that the service we received warranted a guaranteed 20 percent but I understand cost of living and a living wage, etc. It was an incredibly disheartening night and my dinner partner expressed (jokingly) that they would "never let me pick the restaurant again" due to our experience.
Safe to say it will be a while until I return to Bloom.
