Restaurateurs Vittorio Assaf and Fabio Granato opened Brasserie Cognac de Monsieur Ballon in April 2008. The duo brought their love for French culture and cuisine to New York City and gave the Big Apple an authentic slice of such, with a brasserie style menu combining French classics with modern creations.

Sunday morning at 10am. The restaurant was barely a third full the service was so slow and terrible. We waited way too long for coffee and mimosas. When we asked for refills, again, way too long. Had to ask three times. Food for four of us came out two plates at a time with a gap of 5 minutes between plates. The one in Columbus Circle was a favorite. This restaurant needs a lot of training in service and timing. Food was good but after the lack of attentive service Od never go back.

First time at this location. Very, very different than uptown. Sat for dinner at the bar. Bartender was neither friendly, nor hospitable. Hostess was downright cold. First choice of wine was out of stock. Burgers were very good. Fries, despite requesting upfront to be very hot, arrived cold. Seemed to be a problem when we mentioned this. Will happily go back uptown again. Not so fast to return here.

I often get the Niçoise salad with seared tuna. The salad was nice but it was very cold (refrigerated), suggesting it was not freshly made (the tuna was good though)
