Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work.

Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region.

In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

    I don't feel that 4 pierogies on a plate is worth 17 dollars, they were tasty but not outstanding. $15 Pickle plate was also a disappointment. The lumps (japanese milk bread) were great and the high point of this meal.

    We have eaten there before, and came back for among other reasons they know how to correctly coook salmon. Last time the side had been something delicious they did with potatoes. This time it was some gird creating kimchi thing. Last time the salmon was generous in size. This time it was rather ungenerous. The service both times was excellent. The restaurant is a bit pricey. But we came back because our previous experience had indeed been 5 stars, not so much this time.

    We absolutely loved the goat cheese crostini appetizer! I enjoyed the Faroe island salmon - one of the pricier items on the menu, but it was a large portion and it was delicious! My date raved about the butterjoint burger. We will definitely be adding Butterjoint to our revisit list!

    Everything we had was amazing, the service was great and they did a fantastic job accommodating some dietary restrictions one person had. I would absolutely dine there again!
