Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work.

Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region.

In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

    My wife and I really enjoyed our Valentine's Day date to Butterjoint. We had amazing cocktails from the menu. The mussels were the best we have ever had. My wife loved the porkchop. I would not recommend the steak. We enjoyed the atmosphere and had a great night.

    I had a business dinner at Butterjoint last evening and the food and service continue to be excellent. Lola is a great server and is very attentive. It's a great location for a business or personal dining experience.

    Food and service were tremendous. The real problem here is the portions the bar considers acceptable. Our martinis were barely 2/3 full. In fact, the portions of all of the drinks were really pitiful. An otherwise great evening/dinner experience was hampered by what felt like a bartender who had been told to be as stingy and cheap as possible. Would it really break the bank to fill the glasses?

    My wife and I returned to Butterjoint for the cassoulet, which has only been available for a period of two weeks every winter for the past few years. It was excellent, as it has been every time we've come to the restaurant to order it. We also ordered the pickled shrimp as a starter and shared a slice of the Basque cheesecake for dessert. They were also excellent. We live an hour drive from Butterjoint, which is why we don't go there more often. But tonight's meal was the typically high quality experience that we've had at Butterjoint in the past.

    Dinner was great. the only issue was that the room was a bit dark. I saw more than one person using their phone to see the menu. Great Services. Excellent food. Super local place that I recommend to a lot of people
