Butterjoint is a comfy bar and restaurant located in North Oakland. Our welcoming and eclectic atmosphere is appropriate for almost any occasion - whether it be meeting a friend for a drink, celebrating an important event, or relaxing after work.

Our menu is a mixture of familiar Pittsburgh foods (think pierogies, hamburgers, French fries) and French bistro classics (beef tartare, raclette, mussels), and seasonal classics that come and go throughout the year. We put care into our vegetarian dishes too, including making our own tempeh, falafel, and veggie patties from scratch. Menu items change frequently--usually every day--and reflect many long-standing relationships we have with farms and breweries in our region.

In addition to reservations, we also have a thirty seat bar that is first come, first serve. We don’t know exactly how old the bar is, but it’s at least seventy years old (probably older) and very cozy. Our friendly bartenders are here to make something you like.

    The fancy crispy chicken sandwich was delicious but very messy to eat as a sandwich. I'm not sure I would change anything but perhaps offer a wet nap to patrons. 😊

    Food was excellent. Much local sourced. Staff was fabulous. Noise level would not have been that bad if not for one table of 8 seated nearby that left their inside voices elsewhere.

    Was OK. The food was OK. Shrimp appetizer was fair. Shrimp was well done. Salad was that good. Salmon was small. Not much flavor. Won’t be back.

    I felt the food was overpriced for what you were served and the menu was a bit lackluster. Also the pork chop we oredred was a bit overcooked and tough. The cocktails seemed interesting on paper but the three we ordered we felt were just okay. I left a phone message to make my table reservation which I prefer over using Open Table and a return call was never received. Ended up using Open Table and the birthday that we were celebrating which I noted on Open Table was never acknowledged in any way.

    We very much enjoyed our dinner party here. The food was great, the staff was attentive and fun. The drink offerings are great. Try the Bartenders Mercy or the Trick or Treat combo!

    The Bloody Mary Bean Burger, Crispy Chicken Sandwich and Bacon Burger all very good. Cooked to correct temp and the fries were excellent. Butternut squash soup also excellent. Sam was our server, and she was excellent with a great attitude. Thanks Sam!!
