Poor service made this a very disappointing first experience of Cadiz restaurant.
Despite there being only four covers at any time while we were there, the service was unexplainably slow. The service staff/manager lacked any attentiveness and friendliness and an adjacent table also complained to us of the same thing having waited an age to get their drinks.
Before even having time to look at the menu, we were offered bread and olives to which we said yes but found out afterwards come in at a price of £9!!!
The olives arrived, but we didn’t see the bread for 15-20 minutes despite reminding the staff. We you even suggested cancelling it to replace it with something else from the menu, but was told it was already in the oven! However, a couple arrived after us short after they sat down and long before us.
Throughout the evening we had to approach the waiter/manager to chase our orders while he sat at his laptop at the bar at the bar.
From a food perspective, the food was generally okay and as others have mentioned the pork cheeks are very good and I enjoyed the patatas con huevos y jamon. The jamon croquetas, which are usually a favourite tapas of mine, however were disappointingly stodgy and dry/pasty.
If the service had been better, we may have considered returning as we’re always looking for opportunities to support local restaurants. But based on this experience it’s unlikely I would recommend returning to Cadiz which is a real shame really as it doesn’t take much to be more attentive to your customers.
