Authentic Northern Italian fare, also specializing in seafood and steaks. Cafe Portofino is a beautiful upscale restaurant overlooking the ocean located at the Royal Sonesta Resort. Please come and enjoy our award wining cuisine and breathtaking views. Official parking for the restaurant is available at the Royal Sonesta Resort.

Please note, all seating is first come, first served- no special seating requests can be honored. For parties over 6, online reservations are not accepted, please call the main number.

If you have children in your party, please leave a note on your reservation or message the restaurant so that we can better accommodate your seating. Grazie.

    We had a terrible experience. Either they have no system in place to handle food allergies or the waitstaff hasn’t been trained on the system. Our waitress was clueless, unprofessional and disinterested in doing anything but the bare minimum. Find a different place to eat.

    The staff was welcoming. Our server was very attentive. I was just disappointed in the Ono fish as it was not juicy or tender as expected. My husband enjoyed chicken marsala very much though.

    The service and wait staff was friendly. But be careful when they offer suggestions. We were told dessert options, and a piece of cake with a side of ice cream. When the bill came we found we were charged for a dessert of ice cream and also a piece of cake, not cool given it was $15. for each. Food was okay but there are other Italian restaurants in the area with better food for a fraction of the cost. Having said this, the view is very pretty so if you're looking for the beach view no matter what, then this is the place for you.

    The views and service were amazing. I would stick to the Italian food, obviously at an Italian restaurant. The only bad item was the Ribeye Steak, do not order steak. I ordered it medium rare and it came medium well. I did not think it was a ribeye cut either. The appetizers, drinks and other food was delicious!

    If you have been to Lihue, HI, you should know the place. If you haven't, you should go. Right next door to Dukes (another long-time staple), Portofino is a lovely, fine dining experience on the water. The food is excellent, and the service is A+. This is a no-brainer experience if you want something different than fish tacos and Hula pie! Shout out to Francesco, our server, who was awesome.

    Things got off to a bad start at Cafe Portofino for us! After sitting at our table for 15 minutes without being approached by a server, we got up and began to leave. When we got to the host station, he pleaded with us to stay and promised prompt attention, so we returned to our table. A waiter did arrive quickly, but was poorly able to answer questions about menu items as he had just started working there i few weeks earlier. When we received the bread basket, there were four small pieces of supermarket quality baguette and if we wanted more - God knows why we would! - the menu informs that there will be a $5 charge! The salad with portobello mushrooms was decent, although the crostini that came with it were soggy. The Fruite de Mare appetizer was actually excellent and good sized for the price. Ravioli were very disappointing. The suave was quite bland and the ravioli seemed extremely commercial. All in all, not the meal we had expected!

    We had a very nice Thanksgiving dinner. The food was good but the service was great. Ambience sitting on the patio looking out at the ocean was outstanding.
