Our experience with our server, Justin, was quite disappointing. In the restaurant industry, a server's ability to connect with customers is essential, and unfortunately, Justin fell short in this regard. He approached our table with, “Can I get you guys some drinks?” without any greeting or introduction, which set the tone for an unwelcoming experience.
Throughout our visit, he seemed disengaged—walking away in the middle of my conversation and taking a long time to return. When he finally did come back, he poured oil for our bread and quickly left without checking in on us or offering to discuss the menu. It was challenging to get his attention, and when he finally came to take our orders, he simply pulled out his pad, stared at us, and waited for us to speak without so much as a prompt.
This is just a fraction of the communication issues we faced. On top of that, I noticed his lack of cleanliness while handling our food and drinks. When he brought my drink, I saw him improperly handling the straw and stirring it with his bare hands before placing it on the table. Additionally, he refilled my drink by scooping my used glass into the ice, leaving remnants of my leftover lemonade for everyone else to use.
Interestingly, a couple at the booth next to ours overheard our discussion about the poor service and shared their own disappointing experiences with Justin. As a server at a fine dining establishment myself, I usually give grace and understanding, knowing that everyone can have an off day. However, Justin’s service was far below the standard expected in this industry.
While the food never disappoints during our visits, it's a shame to encounter such underwhelming service. After this experience, we're left uncertain about returning.
