The Matador, in East Portland, crafts contemporary Mexican cuisine with some American influence in its relaxing and modern eatery. The black bean queso with garlic crema and tomatillo salsa and the grilled stuffed jalapenos filled with goat cheese and bacon make for delectable starters. Some of The Matador's specialty entrée dishes include the pork shoulder braised carnitas with tortillas and sides, the shrimp skillet seared fajitas and the grilled carne asada skirt steak, all of which are perfectly seasoned. Gourmet tacos like the sautéed chipotle mushrooms with chiles and garlic crema and grilled pork al pastor with pineapple and chile marinated pork and red chile sauce are also wildly popular with diners.The Matador also has craft cocktails, like the tamarind margarita with a cinnamon sugar rim or the mezcal Paloma with fresh grapefruit juice and soda water, which are great accompaniments to your meal.
