We brought a group of out-of-country guests to brunch at the KY Castle. Our reservations were in two groups because we were told they couldn't accommodate a party of eight. No issue there. When we arrived we were seated in two separate rooms, despite each room only having only 1 other occupied table and remained that way throughout our meals. When asked, the hosting staff assured us that it was impossible to accommodate. Keep in mind we weren't asking to change to a larger table, a special room, or pull tables together, merely to change one empty 4-top for another. It is clear that the staff is either not empowered to accommodate guests or simply didn't want to. There WAS a water person busily shuffling waters from empty table to empty table and they did check on those empty tables several times.
The server was polite, but knew nearly nothing about the menu. When asked, she simply read the menu over my wife's shoulder. When she offered coffee, my wife requested decaf and the server replied that she wasn't sure if there was any made. She asked if we would like them to make some for us. No, thank you, don't go to any trouble. She did check on us somewhat frequently but had to be asked for refills of carbonated water then charged for the refill. She did manage to complain how slammed they were in the *lobby* a few minutes ago for the Santa breakfast. (It was not sold out.)
The food was good, not great, but overshadowed by the overall experience.
We have visited this Central Kentucky landmark several times over the past 8-10 years through different owners and management and this was far and away the worst. Living in Woodford Co, we want local businesses to succeed, but when selling a high-end experience, the staff needs to meet or exceed that expectation. Perhaps hire someone who has experience executing and training staff at a high level. That was evident from the moment we walked in.
