Char is a Southern-style modern steakhouse offering USDA Prime and Choice cuts of meat, fresh seafood, home-style sides to share, weekday lunch specials, classic cocktails and an extensive wine and bourbon selection.

    As always, the food, the service, and the ambience were great. Our server, Shannon, was wonderful. We love that one can still find a great restaurant in Nashville that has jazz adding to the overall good experience.

    Beautiful dinner for our anniversary until the large party next to us sat down and had no consideration for everybody around them or quite a bit loud and right now they are experiencing a gnat problem. That’s hard to keep out of your food and drinks while trying to enjoy the greatness of the restaurant.

    I ordered a ribeye-medium rare and it was presented to me medium well/well done (‘no pink’ at all). Another guest in my party ordered a filet-medium, it was sent out well done. Steaks were seasoned well and we didn’t want to wait for them to redo them, so we accepted both steaks ‘as is.’ Found this to be very uncommon for Char. I am hopeful for a better outcome should we return in the future.

    First time here. The food was absolutely delicious. Staff friendly. My mother-in-law had the steak salad, hubby had the steak sandwich and I had the filet mignon w/mushrooms. It’s so hard to find a really tasty steak restaurant but this was cooked perfectly and tender. We will be back.

    Dishes that were excellent: NOLA BBQ shrimp and fried green tomato appetizers; corn dusted red fish; steak and frites, ribeye and truffle fries. Both steak dishes cooked perfectly.

    We had brunch on a rainy afternoon. The “look” of the restaurant was sophisticated, urbane, like one might expect to see in an upscale hotel restaurant or bistro. The wedge salad was proportioned well, not too overwhelming; the lettuce was crisp and wasn’t smothered in dressing. The steak frites were delicious, prepared nicely. The sirloin tips were almost completely covered by the fries, almost hiding. My wife was pleasantly surprised by the offering of a vegetable plate. The broccoli, while undercooked just a bit, had some spice - interesting! Really good. Our server was spot on, never missed a step. Definitely worth another visit.
