Arrived for a 6.30 reservation (the only one we could have before 9pm) with one extra guest for a table for three. We were made to wait for some time while the maitre d', who did not seem that pleased to see us, wandered off leaving us stranded at reception for some time whilst other guests, obviously more important guests streamed past us to their seats. Eventually a table was found and we were seated, once our order was placed the service went down hill fast. Any attempts to get the attention of the waiting staff was futile. The only attention we received was endless questions about how our meal was but when we needed anything, bread, for example, or wine it took some time to gain the attention of the staff and then even longer to actually receive what we had asked for. A request for mayonnaise for the chips was never fulfilled and there was a clear feeling that our requests for service were wholly unreasonable. The only exceptions to this appalling service were one waiter and the restaurant manager who were polite, if inaccessible, for much of the evening.
The food was perfectly fine but nowhere near the standard we had hoped for having eaten regularly at The Jetty and The Harbour Hotel in Southampton and the bill was enormous in relation to the quality and quantity of the food. It is the first place I have ever eaten where I was tempted to take service off the bill.
Also, curiously, the restaurant was never anywhere near capacity despite the lack of available slots to book tables for that evening.
Overall the evening represented terrible value for money which is such a waste of an incredible venue in a spectacular location.
