My recent experience at CouCou in Palm Dubai left much to be desired. Initially, when I booked our reservation, there was no mention of any minimum charge, either on their website or in the booking confirmation. Then, just an hour before our reservation, I received a WhatsApp message informing me of a 1000 AED minimum spend. This last-minute notice felt like a “take it or leave it” approach, and with such short notice, we reluctantly agreed.
Upon arrival, things escalated. We were informed by the staff that the minimum charge was actually 1000 AED per person and was “non-negotiable.” The waiters were unyielding and pushed this hard, making it clear they wouldn’t honor our reservation unless we agreed. The pressure they applied made us feel uncomfortable and undervalued as guests.
After expressing our frustration and mentioning that we’d be leaving a review about our experience, they removed the minimum charge. We ultimately only paid for what we consumed, but the whole process felt unnecessarily stressful and manipulative.
While the ambiance is certainly appealing, this kind of approach undermines the experience. I’d recommend potential visitors confirm all policies in advance to avoid similar issues. It’s unfortunate, as transparency from the start would have made all the difference.
