This was our first time at Courthouse Club and it was enjoyable. The restaurant is in an old bank building and the decor is art deco and very cool. Love the exposed brick, wood floors, and “bubble lights!” We were seated quickly at a large, comfortable booth. Our server encouraged all in our party who asked about the menu to order the steak over anything else we asked about, which was different. The menu selection is on the small side, and a bit all over the place. By that, I mean there is sushi, raw oysters, beef sliders, lamb lollipops, mussels with cream sauce, goat cheese dip, steak tacos, corn chowder, loaded sweet potatoes…sushi on the same menu with beef tacos, sea bass, and corn chowder seemed strange to me. Are you a sushi place? Steak place? Americana? Seafood? Hard to tell here. However, the steaks were good, and the mussels in cream sauce plump and different. They were good, and I DID like them, but would still prefer a garlicky, white wine sauce any day over a cream sauce for this particular dish. The grilled Caesar salad was very good. Next time, I’ll ask for shrimp with it, as it wasn’t enough on its own as an entree, even with an appetizer. The short rib egg rolls were a bit too spicy for our group. Service was on the slow side that night, but it is the holiday season, and all restaurants are full. I peeked in the bar and it is large, lively, cool, and has live entertainment that can be heard throughout the restaurant. The singer was really good. Next time, we’ll sit in the bar and enjoy the ambiance. Will we go back? Yes. Is there room for improvement? Yes. I think in time, with some menu fine tuning and focusing, this could be a really great restaurant!
