We visited Crawford Social Restaurant on Christmas Eve and made a reservation via OpenTable. Upon arrival, we were told that our reservation was for outdoor seating, which was a surprise since it was listed as “standard” on OpenTable with no mention of patio or outdoor seating. The staff explained that “standard” sometimes means outdoor seating during peak times, which makes no sense. Typically, restaurants allow you to specify indoor or patio seating, and there was no such option here.
None of us were dressed for outdoor dining on a cold evening, and although they offered us outdoor seating options, they were not suitable for the weather or the occasion. We eventually noticed a small tabletop near the entrance with only two chairs. Despite being busy, we opted to sit there but had to ask neighboring tables for extra chairs since the manager did not feel comfortable requesting them on our behalf.
This was meant to be a special, intimate Christmas Eve dinner, but the seating situation was far from ideal. We’ve been here before for drinks and appetizers, which we enjoyed, but this formal dining experience fell short.
As for the food, it was a mixed bag:
•The wings were flavorful but very dry.
•The walnut shrimp was delicious, as always.
•The Brussels sprout salad was a standout—perfect and a must-try.
•The margaritas were strong and enjoyable.
•One of our boys ordered pasta, which was too dry and had to be sent back; he opted for a pizza instead, which was excellent.
•The chicken tenders were great, and the Shirley Temples were a hit, made with real cherries and bottled Sprite for a nice touch.
The overall experience was disappointing for a Christmas Eve dinner. This restaurant is better suited for casual outings—sitting at the bar with drinks and appetizers rather than formal dining.
A key takeaway: If you make a reservation, be sure to specify that you want indoor seating, as “standard” apparently means first available.”
