My partner and I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. From the moment we arrived, there were issues. Our reservation was questioned, even though we had confirmed it for a party of two. The staff seemed skeptical, as if I hadn’t completed the reservation properly or as if we didn't belong there.
Once seated, a young lady came to our table and greeted us warmly. She was pleasant, patient, and took our drink orders, even complimenting my choice. She was very helpful in explaining the menu and set a good tone initially. However, without any notice or introduction, a gentleman came to take over the order process. There was no communication about this switch, which felt abrupt and awkward.
When my partner asked questions about the menu, the gentleman's tone was sharp and dismissive. For example, I mentioned that I have a shellfish allergy, and his response was curt: “Well, easy, no shrimp for you.” The tone and lack of sensitivity were off-putting, especially considering the seriousness of allergies. This dismissive approach was quite frustrating.
We then asked some follow-up questions regarding a dish, particularly about whether dark meat could be avoided, as neither of us eats it. Rather than addressing our request professionally, the gentleman engaged in banter, suggesting that we could simply “eat around it, or it could or couldn't be removed This dismissive attitude toward a reasonable request was very disappointing.
At this point, we decided to just close out for our drinks and leave, as we felt unwelcome and undervalued as paying customers. We couldn’t help but notice a lack of diversity in the establishment, and, as two Black gay men, we left feeling that we may not have been treated fairly.
