Located just beyond the West Loop’s famed “restaurant row,” El Che Steakhouse & Bar is Chicago's go-to destination for steak, seafood, and live-fire cooking. The restaurant is modeled after Executive Chef/Partner John Manion’s fascination with Argentinean asados: traditional backyard barbecues surrounding the flame. A 12-foot custom-built grill serves as the centerpiece for this downtown asado which embraces South American-tinged meats, seasonal vegetables, fresh seafood, and of course, steak. The hearth also serves as the heart of the restaurant’s experiences such as dining at the Hearth Table.


Join us for happy hour at our cocktail bar, featuring signature cocktails and fiery bar bites or indulge in a glass of wine from the country’s only South American wine list. No matter what you choose, El Che brings the heat seven nights a week.

                                    Overpriced! The food is average. My NY steak was not seasoned properly and had no taste. Meat was chewy, with gristle which was not appetizing for $76. The vegetable (sweet potato) was greasy and nothing special. The empanadas wasn’t great either. On the other hand, Service was good. Overall, not worth what you pay. I do not recommend it.

                                    First time eating here. Had an amazing experience. Wonderful staff and servers - had such a pleasant interaction with everyone. Food was excellent. Exactly what I hoped for. I will absolutely be coming back!

                                    Fantastic steakhouse with perfect drinks too. Highly recommend and our service was absolutely amazing. Seriously cannot wait to come back and bring some friends!

                                    Variety was limited. Sides and appetizers were minimal. Food taste was just ok. service was great and very attentive.

                                    The filet, cooked rare for my spouse and medium-rare for me, was quite simply the best we have ever eaten, in a long lifetime of eating steak. Special thanks to Connor for his friendly and attentive service and for his tremendous knowledge of Latin American wines!

                                    The waitstaff was friendly & attentive. When we described what kind of wine we like; he asked the sommelier & it was a miss. He then came back with a great wine. The salad & 2 potato dishes were excellent. The steak (what we were most excited about, given how infamous Argentina is for good steak), was utterly flavorless! We chose the most expensive, highest quality 32oz rib eye. It was cooked perfectly (medium rare). Just so disappointing!
