Nestled high above LoHi on the fifth floor of 2930 Umatilla, El Five boasts spectacular, unobstructed views of the downtown Denver skyline. The menu is an homage to the Mediterranean and features small plates built on bold flavors found throughout the region: Spain, North Africa, the Middle East.

Inside, the space is understated and sensual, flanked by a large, open-air patio for sun-kissed Colorado nights. As the newest restaurant in the Edible Beats family, El Five celebrates the confluence of flavors, ideas and geographies made possible by a subtle shift in perspective.

We sat at the chefs counter which had a great view. The food was overall really good! Our issue was that the waitress told us all about sitting at the chefs counter and how we would get this great experience and have tastes from the chefs as they make things. None of this happened. We were mostly ignored and didn’t receive any “bites” as she called it. The couple next to us complained as well and received some cheese which at that time we were already finished and didn’t complain as well. It just ended up being uncomfortable

I've been to ElFive multiple times. It's my favorite restaurant in Denver... it has EVERYTHING! The views are incredible (go when it will be dark if possible to see the lights). The service is great, the food is INCREDIBLE. Great vibe as well. One thing I would say is that we went for chefs kitchen counter service this time. I think it's better to just get a table with a view (however at the counter you are up high enough to see the view). Just not much interaction with the chefs, so we didn't really learn anything about their amazing cuisine.

Service was short of matching high end prices. Our main server was not well versed in Spanish tapas in general (although she knows this menu well, she needs to bone up on general knowledge). She also disappeared for long stretches of time. The 2 chefs at the counter were outstanding, however.

This place is seriously overrated and overpriced. The food was fine, but not special. The service was S L O W. The view is what it really has going for it. There are much better options for dining at that price point that offer much more memorable meals. I won't be coming back.

I will never eat here again because of the volume of the music. Why restaurants are so determined to drive away customers with driving techno music remains a complete mystery to me. I’d happily pay a premium to eat at a restaurant that promised not to play anything at all.
