We have been regular customers to Encasa for over 20 years and the restaurant has always provided good service and some good value and tasty tapas.
We last visited in April and enjoyed our night very much so decided to return again last week for another catch up with old friends.
The restaurant has been BYO forever and we brought 2 bottles of our favourite wine as usual to enjoy with our meal knowing that we would have to pay a small corkage.
We were greeted by a friendly staff member who took our order and we asked for wine glasses for our wine which we had just opened.
We were then told that the restaurant is no longer BYO!
We asked to speak to the manager and explained that we had been coming to Encasa for over 20 years and we were very disappointed that they were no longer BYO and as this was our first visit since the policy had changed could we drink our wine and could she charge us a corkage as a gesture of goodwill.
Sadly she was adamant that she could not compromise so we decided to leave.
I understand policies can change, even after many years, but I feel that the restaurant should advise people when a reservation is made that they no longer allow BYO. Not only was it frustrating that we were not advised beforehand, I felt the Manager’s intransigence to some clients who had been regulars for years was poor customer service.
Obviously Encasa does not have to rely on regular customers anymore but it is sad that we were treated so poorly.
