We hadn’t been to Epic Steak for brunch in years but remembered it being quite good for brunch. With out-of-town guests visiting—friends I hadn’t seen in over 30 years—Epic Steak, conveniently located near their Embarcadero hotel, seemed like an easy choice.
Unfortunately, the experience fell flat. The food was mediocre at best. Right from the start, we were told there was zero flexibility on egg preparation. Not everyone enjoys sunny-side-up eggs, so they went untouched—a frustrating waste, especially given current egg shortages.
My chilaquiles arrived drowning in a watery sauce, a far cry from any I’ve had before. I love chilaquiles, but I couldn’t finish these. My partner’s chicken and waffles came with another odd surprise: the waitress seemed baffled when he asked for maple syrup—for his waffles!
The ambiance and views were amazing, as always, but it ended there. Overall, an underwhelming, pricey brunch that didn’t live up to its reputation.
