The inside of the pub is lovely, creating a cosy and festive ambience. And the food was nice.
They were for obvious reasons busy on New Year’s eve, when we went. The result was that the service was really, really slow. It took over an hour to get our main courses and it was pretty difficult getting the attention of any of the staff. We understand that it’s probably one of the busiest nights of the year for them but then hire more temporary staff maybe? Or don’t cram so many bookings in at the same time if you can’t logistically do all of them.
The experience was also unfortunately ruined a bit for us by the person doing the bill bizarrely insisting that the £50 deposit we had already paid several days before would not be taken off the bill (as is normal) but would be transferred back to us that evening. It was such a weird thing to do and when I questioned it, I was met with a sarcastic response by the person who served us and did the bill which was incredibly irritating.
So we were in effect double charged a portion of the bill. I then had to waste my time chasing the chain’s head office to get the £50 we had been forced to overpay refunded. Because it obviously wasn’t refunded that evening. Or the next day. It was about 3 days later and only after I called head office saying I was unhappy. Which was ridiculous.
