Foreign Cinema is a one of a kind, nationally acclaimed restaurant combining independent films with California-Mediterranean cooking. Enjoy an airy yet chic setting, complete with indoor dining room with a fireplace, outdoor courtyard with 35mm film screening starting at dusk, mezzanine, gallery curated by Modernism West & full bar in the main dining room. Foreign Cinema has something for everyone including their DJ/live music bar, Laszlo. Enjoy special happy hours, uniquely craft cocktails, zero proof selections, full Foreign Cinema dinner menu, and lively music to end your evening.

We are currently booking for Outdoor Patio & Indoor/Standard seating 60 days in advance. A ‘standard seating’ reservation is indoor dining. Reservations for 10+ may be booked through private dining department - contact janine@foreigncinema.com for more information.

    For Valentine's Day we are offering a celebratory four course menu for $175 per adult & $40 per child (price does not include drinks, tax, or gratuity). There will be choices in each course, including vegetarian and vegan options. This is the only menu available, there will not be an a la carte option. Sample menu can be viewed on our website. We have a 48 hour cancellation policy for Valentine's Dinner, it is $50 per person if cancelled after 5pm on Wednesday, 2/12.

    We had NYE meal to welcome 2025. Overall a very underwhelming experience- worst part was the weird Hawaii themed night - there was no notice that this was going to be the food choice. It was an odd choice for the food and it showed with low quality and uninspiring food choices. Lamb chops were super spicy and over cooked. Crab cakes overcooked. Overall would not recommend this place

    Still a fan of the regular menu at Foreign Cinema and will always be, but the New Years Eve prix fix was a truly unmemorable and overpriced experience

    We have had great experiences at foreign cinema in the past. We particularly love their brunch, so were excited for their special Hawaiian New Year’s Eve. However, unfortunately our experience last night was pretty terrible. The price was outrageous for what we got, realizing it was New Year’s Eve, of course things are more expensive, but my husband and I each had 1 drink and the pre-fixe meal and the bill for 2 was $600 with tip. For that price I expect a special meal and some extras along with lots of food and great service. The portion size was tiny for the three courses i received. I left still hungry and I am not a huge eater. They were sold out of some items already by the time we ordered. Again for the price of this meal, this is not something one expects. The biggest issue we had with this meal was the service. Our server was hardly seen, we had to wait 40 min just to place our food orders and the food took forever to come out between each course. He barely checked in on us and when it came time for dessert we waited a half an hour before he realized we hadn’t received it, and it was clearly sitting at the bar for a long time because my husbands affogato was served with cold espresso. Foreign cinema has been an institution in SF that we love to visit for brunch, but unfortunately this experience has left a bad taste in my mouth and I won’t be returning again soon.

    Foreign Cinema is our go-to whenever we visit the city. We also recommend it to anyone else visiting. The food is always outstanding, the service is top notch, and the ambiance is fun and lively.

    Celebrated Nye. It was a prix fixe menu with a tiki theme. Food was amazing especially the papaya salad, ahi wonton cups, and scallops. Vibes were fun but still classy. Our server was very friendly. Worth the money. Can't wait to go back.

    If you are looking for a moment filled with fun and a refined atmosphere, Foreign Cinema will not disappoint. My husband and I booked dinner for two on New Year's Eve, a tricky time with all the hype of the sparkle and romance. The experience was fabulous from start to finish. On arrival, we were seated in one of their three dining rooms, all with their vibe. I asked to have our table changed, and they were quick to accommodate me. The three courses had a wide variety, and the evening theme was Tiki, Polynesian, which included dancers and musicians, depending on the room you were seated in. Foreign Cinema is always fun, and the food has always been good. New Year was no different. All courses were excellent and moved at a perfect pace. There were dancers, which, you might expect, was a cheesy overlay, but the musicians and dancers were beautifully connecting to the spirit of Pele, and we felt we were in Hawaii. It was a spiritual reminder that under all the sparkle of the evening, we are all connected by the beauty of nature, mountains, sunsets, and ocean. Thank you to all the chefs, waiters, managers, and dancers. It was very special evening!
