Frascati Restaurant in Mickleham, Dorking, has a cute, kitschy atmosphere that makes you feel you could be in your grandmother’s house, replete with nick-nacks, well-fluffed cushions on cane furniture and bright tablecloths contrasting whitewashed walls. It’s a beautiful, homely setting – but anybody used to getting this kind of food at home is beyond lucky. The Italian fare served at Frascati on London Road is not traditional in a rustic family sense but traditional within the more refined areas of Italian cuisine. It’s proper first-class restaurant food, with dishes like scaloppine leonardo (veal with white wine, orange and lemon), duck breast with black cherry and succulent bistecca d’Agnello dotted around the menu. Your average Italian restaurant in Surrey has no chance matching Frascati’s elegant seafood dishes and an entire menu dedicated to delicious, traditional preparations of offal, not to mention the exquisite desserts to finish off.
