There’s a saying in Japan, ‘Ichi-go ichi-e,’ which means, every moment is one-of-a-kind and something to be treasured. This is the philosophy of our neighbourhood restaurant FUMI, located in the centre of Brighton.
A slow restaurant in a fast-moving city, FUMI is a place where flavours, service and interiors are harmonious.
A simple Japanese inspired menu driven by the seasons, our moods and by whatever is fresh and exciting in the moment.

At FUMI, we source all our produce, meats and fish from small, local suppliers. Nothing is mass-produced or served out of season, with everything we create coming directly from the farm to your table. Each meal at FUMI is a celebration of bountiful harvests, beloved community, and our favourite pairing of food and friends.

Turned up to find restuarant closed. Waiter/manager opened the door to inform us they were closed for a private function for the evening. However, since the booking was taken by their system they were going to open up for us and one other table booking! Most of the menu was available and the food served up was excellent, service friendly and attentive. Despite there being only 2 tables and a lack of atmosphere as a consequence, we had a good time. The decor and attention to detail in the creation of the restuarant is very good. Once again, thanks to the staff opening up for us to experience the excellent food. Also, thoughts with the head chef who managed to burn himself on the day. Will definately return.

The space is beautiful and calm - spacious and well designed. Service was attentive, food was slow in coming but tasted good when it came - and we were not rushed or pressed to finish - easy and pleasant evening - would go again

Food was great ! Bit disappointed all the tuna had run out. The 5 course tasting menu first offered was not available. Also chef went home so no food available after 9 pm which we was not told about prior the booking. Would have been nice to chill out a bit longer with some more food !

Really good Japanese food. Tweaked, as in not super traditional, but well executed and delicious. Homemade pickles, divine miso aubergine, great shortribs, and of course sashimi. Interesting desserts too. Wouls recommend.

had the 6 course taster menu, and it was one of the best dining experiences I can remember. absolutly wonderful

Very dissapointing meal. Having booked a table for 10 people at 8.30pm on Saturday night, we were greated with ... kitchen closes in 30 mins... food was actually v good, but service was poor, wines not available, certain ingrediance not available ie : rice we were then presented with a bill, no offer of desert, no offer of more drinks, no offer of coffee ..... Very poor will not be going back . Staff were then just sat around waiting for us to leave

The staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. They were knowledgable on both drink and food options and were willing to meet our every need.

Very nice staff and service. We have over ordered and over ate. Cocktails are good. Food is good. Setting is minimalist and tables are far apart which is good for private conversations. Good venue.
