I really want to give Ghost Baby five stars, as the ambiance is exceptional and creates such a unique experience in Cincy. However, I’ve been here several times now, and I find myself hesitant to rate it that highly due to some recurring service issues.
First, I’ll start with the reservation policy. While OpenTable specifies that reservations are guaranteed for 2 hours, I was informed upon checking in that our table was only reserved for 1.5 hours. This was confusing, so I asked our waitress about it when she came over to take our drink order. She wasn’t surprised by my question, as she explained that this happens often. She mentioned that she’s been advocating for them to update this information, but as of now, it hasn’t been addressed. For clarity, they only offer 1.5-hour reservations for the first two shows of the evening; every show after that is 2 hours. Since we had the second show, we were only allowed 1.5 hours, which was not clearly communicated when we booked.
The waitstaff, however, are genuinely lovely. Our server was kind, attentive, and took the time to explain the situation to us. They also give you reminders toward the end of your reservation to let you know when your time is almost up, which is helpful, though it still feels a bit rushed.
Another issue is the check-in process. After checking in at the entrance, there’s an additional check-in inside that usually results in a line. Even though we arrived early, this line has consistently cut into our reservation time by about 15 minutes. I understand they’re busy and doing their best to accommodate everyone, but this does affect the overall experience.
In summary, Ghost Baby has so much potential with its wonderful ambiance and great staff, but these service inefficiencies—especially around reservation timing and the check-in process—really detract from an otherwise excellent experience. I hope they can address these issues to make future visits more seamless.
