This was our first dinner at Gia. We are locals, and we will always try new dining ventures, especially when it specialises in food from the sub-continent. The food was exceptional, especially the mains of chicken curry and pork curry. The serving sizes were spot on. Together those features meant our plates were completely empty on finishing.
Gia is licensed and does not accept BYO. We ordered a glass of shiraz and a glass of cab sav - can't remember the labels or vintages. But the shiraz was off and the cab sav not far from being off. We asked for the shiraz to be replaced. This is not something I like to do, but it does happen. It was not an issue. Our waiter said he could not understand the shiraz being off as he had opened it the previous night and had already served others with it. But I did not need to taste it to know it was off. The smell did that, and my taste confirmed it. The replacement glass of shiraz came from a new bottle - chalk and cheese. Much better. Later we were given another, complimentary glass. That was unexpected.
Bottom line is that we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and did not let the wine issue spoil it because it was minor and, hopefully, a one-off. Service was attentive, prompt, and friendly and professional. We will be back.
