HALFSMOKE is a modern day gourmet American restaurant serving a classic American menu of premium wood grilled dishes, tater tots, mac and cheese balls, funnel cakes, milkshakes, liquor, beer and wine.

The beverage program features a wide array of innovative alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. A full bar of alcoholic beverages to include seasonal craft cocktails, boozy milkshakes, 10+ craft beers (with an emphasis on local), as well as wine, and mixed drinks on tap. Non-alcoholic beverages to include craft sugar cane soda, house-made seasonal lemonade and teas, and ready to drink juices, sparking water and cold brew coffee are also available.

                                                    As a DC native, I grew up on half smokes at cookouts, so this restaurant is a fav of mine. The food is excellent, the space has a comfortable vibe, and the service is always friendly. The sandwiches seem a little smaller than a couple years ago but always tasty and well crafted.

                                                    While the food has definitely improved, the service still leaves a lot to be desired. The main issue was in the communication between our party & the server. Someone ordered the 'blacker the berry' cocktail; our server brought out a clearly not berry drink & tried to tell us that it was what we ordered. Another person ordered a gin & tonic; our server brought a tequila & tonic. Additionally, the restaurant had maybe one other large group & a few people seated at the bar, but the service was very slow.

                                                    We had a great experience for our party of 4. Our waitress, Esther was very sweet and accommodating even making substitutions when the menu said “no substitutions”. There a was a hiccup with one of the orders. The manager made it right immediately, without us even asking. We had a great time!

                                                    Stopped in to have dinner and drinks before a show at the Howard Theater. Drinks were decent, food was really good (excellent portions). Ambiance was great, with TV at the bar with a popular sporting event being broadcasted and another TV away from the bar with R&B music. Overall a great experience.

                                                    We LOVED it here! The parking was easy. The vibe was cool. The service was quick, cheerful and attentive! The people in the next table celebrated a birthday and the presentation was cute and festive! The food was AMAZING and the drinks were delicious and not watered down. 10/10! Highly recommend! Will absolutely return!

                                                    They do not open till 11. Why would they allow us to book a reservation at 10 if they don’t open till 11. That speaks volumes about how organized they are

                                                    It took about 30 mins for someone to come take our order. We waited over an hour and never received our food so we cancelled and left.

                                                    The food was very good. However, the customer service could've been a little bit better. The woman forgot a couple of items and good thing we got in early because it got busy. Which meant less attention on us, but overall, it was a good experience.
