On May 13, 1931, Giuseppe Cipriani opened Harry's Bar in Venice. Over the years, Harry's Bar has become the place where writers, painters, artists, aristocrats, kings, and queens would meet. Among them were: Barbara Hutton, Katherine Hepburn, Gary Cooper, Giancarlo Menotti, Peggy Guggenheim, Orson Welles, Frank Lloyd Wright, Joe DiMaggio, Truman Capote, and Ernest Hemingway. The keys to the success of this small bar were: service, freedom, and lack of imposition.

Throughout its 93-year history, Harry's Bar has witnessed the 20th century in Venice. Its importance was also recognized by the Italian Ministry of Cultural Heritage, which declared it a national reference point in 2001. No other public place in Italy had received the same award in the same century.

    Our server was outstanding! Drinks at the bar were fabulous! I found it odd that there was no fun and lively background music playing in the restaurant. We were seated for our 7pm reservation right next to the only other 2 top table, and without music we were oddly included in their conversation until more diners arrived.

    food was good, consistent with other Cipriani. Very boring ambiance. Too quiet. The service was good, but the waiter could have made better suggestions on how to order. We ordered 4 Short Ribs that fed 8 people. He could have adised is to order only 2 or 3. The vitelo tonatto was outstanding.

    Personale accogliente e garbato, veloci nelle preparazioni, attenti e rispettosi. Ho chiesto di anticipare l’orario della prenotazione effettuata e nonostante la grande affluenza, mi hanno accontentato. Esperienza molto positiva e logistica gradevole.

    Staff and service here were spot on. PROFESSIONAL! The food was edible, however not much variety. The Bellini was subpar. It tasted old and batch premade. The presentation was quite boring as well. The space was crammed and decor was dated.

    Extremely disappointing. Noisy, lacking ambience, cold, service poor. Walked out without ordering food. Do not recommend.
