I wish I had some better things to say about as I was very much looking forward to having the cafe at Hazelhurst reopen, as it was always our go to for group catch ups with kids. However the new owners have definitely gone in a different direction which is a big shame.
First problem we had was that we did request an indoor table given the heat and for sun protection. Once arrived part of our table had already been seated and as they were unaware of the request were settled outside. The umbrella set up did little to protect us from the sun and they have removed previous shade including a large tree and roofing
Second problem was the service. Initially quite full on but forgot a drink, had to ask multiple times for it. Then once our food was served, we got no future assistance. No one asked if we wanted more drinks nor dessert. Our plates lay on the table for around 20 mins with no one collecting
Third problem. The menu. Quite outrageously priced now. Children’s meal $18. Pretty thrown together sandwich around the same price on what I can assume was helga like bread. The wine list was so extensive and is now less than a handful or beyond ridiculously priced. I find it hard coping such high prices when there is shared public toilets with the gallery.
Outdoor tables on the grass have been removed and definitely not a child friendly dining experience now.
The previous cafe was easy, yet had really yummy food that suited everyone and had a great relaxed without being lazy vibe, where families of all ages could go and enjoy the grounds and the food. It’s a shame that’s now gone and replaced with an upscaled poorly serviced cafe/restaurant.
Hopefully the new staff can see this review and improve, but I won’t be recommending to my friends and family based on our initial experience. As I said I had very high hopes and unfortunately they fell well short. But if this is what the new owners were hoping to achieve I guess they have.
